The fishing was as unpredictable as the Indiana, PA weather. Saturday had open, bright skies—sunburn was a legitimate concern; Sunday brought showers. Anglers of all experience levels returned from the creek with either six hooked fish in four hours, or nothing. There was no middle ground.
The competition, however, was electric. After each of the three fishing sessions, a different team looked like they were posed to be named the 2011 Grand Champion.
The 2010 Grand Champions, father and son duo Jay and Scott Roy, held a commanding lead after the first session. Things dried up for them shortly thereafter. First time anglers Glenn Weisner and Gary Leone, from Flat Rock, MI, ended up with the title of Grand Champions. The Roy’s were runners up.
All of the fishing was on the fly, and there were several veteran anglers who have been supporting cystic fibrosis research for years.
This year was a bit different for them, though, because the water level was exceptionally high. The creek was just inches away from being blown out, and certain beats were unfishable.
The creek was full of large trout. Gary Leone caught the largest brown trout at 20” and veteran Tony Pascotti caught the biggest rainbow trout at 23”.
The anglers enjoyed the weekend of fishing and camaraderie, but no one ever lost sight of the real reason they were there—to make CF stand for “cure found.”
