LITTLE PALM ISLAND -- St. Louis angler Adolphus Busch bested more than 40 anglers catching four tarpon on fly and a bonefish and permit on bait to claim Grand Champion Anglers at the 2000 Little Palm Island Grand Slam held Aug. 22-24 at the posh Little Palm Island Resort in Florida's Lower Keys. Busch was fishing with Capt. Tim Hoover and his wife, Ann Busch. Together, they also took the Couples Grand Champion division.

"This is such a great tournament at a great location and for a wonderful
cause," Busch said after the awards cerimony. "My wife and I spend a great
deal of time in the Keys, and love Little Palm, but this is really the only
couples tournament around. It is a great time for a great cause and we can't wait till next year."

The Team Champion award went to Ron and Wayne Creber of Palm Beach, Fla. fishing with Capt. Rusty Albury. Westin, Florida's Andrew Yaffa was the runnerup Grand Champion, with one tarpon on fly, two bonefish on artificial, a bonefish and two permit on bait. Yaffa fished with Capt. Tom Rowland of Key West. Yaffa was also the spin/plug division champion. Kansas angler Dan Root, no stranger to the winner's circle took top fly rod honors, while Dan Zicari of Vero Beach was the general division champion.

Tavernier's Jim Bokor recorded the most bonefish releases, while Zicari had the most permit releases. Ft. Lauderdale's Larry Sydnor won the tarpon release division.

In all, the event totalled 54 releases with 26 tarpon, 16 bonefish and 12
permit. The tournament, which serves as the unofficial kickoff for the Redbone Celebrity Fishing Tournament Series, is part of the Redbone at Large series.

All proceeds benefit research for a cure to Cystic Fibrosis.
